Welcome

Easter at the Crispendorf Holiday Railway

When colorful eggs and a colorful train meet in blooming nature, it's Easter again. Traditionally, the Crispendorf Holiday Railway starts its season on Easter Sunday. On tracks just 60 centimeters wide, it's time to get on the wheels again for numerous rides along the 2.1-kilometer circuit. On Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., the two battery-powered locomotives "Crispi" and "Maja" will depart from the Festwiese station at intervals of up to 10 minutes. A chance to meet the Easter Bunny isn't out of the question!

The café on the platform invites you to linger with food, drinks, coffee, cake, and ice cream amidst the blooming nature. Of course, there's also a bouncy castle!

The volunteer members of the association have renewed approximately 70 meters of track in the past few months. 50 tons of ballast and, among other things, 100 new sleepers were installed. Track construction is one of the many activities of the association's members and, apart from the rolling stock, the most complex area, financed through donations and fares. For years, it has been possible to sponsor a sleeper and thus support the association in purchasing the expensive but durable concrete sleepers. Although only wooden sleepers were installed on the straight stretch last winter, the next curve, which will primarily be equipped with concrete sleepers, is guaranteed.

From Easter to the end of October, the trains run on specific days and by reservation. The bathing train can be booked for children's birthdays or other events. The Crispendorf Holiday Country Railway Association, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year and the 50th birthday of the battery-powered locomotive Crispi, operates and maintains the tracks and rolling stock to preserve this charmingly situated gem for locals and tourists. Many volunteer hours are spent on all activities, just like on a large railway, as the law makes no distinction between small and large trains. Helping hands are always needed!

The Holiday Country Railway runs along the Wisenta plateau and crosses the Saale-Wisenta-Plothengrund circular hiking trail. The Holiday Country Railway is a good starting point for a short walk. From the mountain ridge, you can look down to the Saale, and the Wisenta Dam is within sight.
